Boston!

boston

All things that we think of as safe, fun and even just our American way of life are being altered.  It’s kind of weird because I am not scared but I am saddened about all that is happening around us.  It makes me sad that people are so…..”non-people like”.  I would say evil, but I don’t even think that word really describes the people that commit acts like this.

I am sure you all know what happened yesterday in Boston, it’s really everywhere.  This is starting to feel like the norm.  We wonder what will be the next tragedy and when will it be, because it seems inevitable that there will be another, and another, and even another.

Children and Music Contamination Saturation

I remember being a young girl riding in the car with my cousin and her parents and singing Color Me BadI wanna sex you up“….. I had to be about 8 and it was totally innocent, just a catchy song

“…ooooooooo I wanna sex you up”

….and then I got checked…
“We don’t sing that song”, my aunt replied.

Fast forward twenty something years; I’m thirty one, with a nine year old daughter, Boogie.
My Jill Scott station is playing on Pandora Radio and she hears “I hope she cheats on you with a basketball playa, hope that she Kim kardashian her way up” and while I love the song, I cringe.

The Motherhood Divide

Welp, its almost time for me to take my buns back to work – in exactly one week to be exact.

I promise four months didn’t go by this fast when I was pregnant and waiting on him to get here.

Oh how time flies....

As the countdown has begun, the last couple weeks have been fairly emotional for me.  I really love being at home with both of my children.  The ability to see my daughter off to and from school and being the main person in my sons life in these formative times really brings me joy.

The devalued state of marriage

What’s the point of getting married? No really.  It seems that currently in the state of our culture, marriage has been devalued.  Our society has shifted from a God fearing, held to a higher being than our own selves kind of lifestyle to a grab some Jesus in the drive through and make sure that no one’s feelings are hurt or feel left out kind of life, those principles that made people more accountable and upstanding are falling by the way side.

I reflect on this often, but as I was reading an article titled, “Not Married, Not Single”, in my November 2012 issue (yea I am a little behind) of Essence magazine, I felt myself cringe.

I Woke Up!

Posted on

These past couple of weeks has warranted me some (well, lots) of discomfort, lack of sleep, aches and pains in places I didn’t know was there and so on.  But today I woke up.

Yesterday, I was perusing through my Facebook feed and saw a post from one of the natural hair blogs I follow stating that a fellow blogger and video blogger (Vlogger) had passed away during childbirth.  I immediately said a prayer for her family and her newborn baby.

Curiosity then led me to her Facebook page, and although she wasn’t someone that I had heard of, I saw that many people did know and follow her.  Her last post was on October 12 and she spoke of how in five weeks she would be on maternity leave.  When I did the math, I realized this meant that she was due pretty much the same week that I am.
