Did the Dr. just tell me that my baby has a big head???

Posted on

A few weeks ago, we took the munchkin to his two month check up, oh how time flies.  They went through all of the normal procedures – the strip him down to naked and take his weight, stretch him long to get his length, and then wrap the tape measure around his head and measure his head.  All is well, he’s a healthy little much!!

We didn’t come to this conclusion easily though.  After the nurses aide took his measurements the doctor came in to check him out, find out what he is doing new, how we are adjusting, etc.  She looks down at his measurement and say’s “oh that cant be right”.  She proceeds to tell us that his head measure is pretty big and had increased a great amount between now and his two week visit.  She re-measured and affirmed the measurement taken, then asks, “so who has a big head between the two of you?”

I’m no soccer mom….but my kid plays soccer

Posted on

It’s indoor soccer season, and when I think of soccer moms, its a vision of those stay at home moms with the mini vans and agenda full of kids activities – and that sure ain’t me!  My agenda is full, but its not just kid focused (now that I think about it maybe it is – work, church, activities and cooking – it’s all for them).

But my kid plays soccer and I’m her mom, so maybe I am some form of a soccer mom; but in the most untraditional sense.  I have no idea how this works, what constitutes a goal, or even how you win; but I’m here and cheering her on, although my husband is her biggest cheerleader (only because he understands the game).

National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

Posted on

PLBG doesn’t really have a topic driven focus, but rather is a platform for all things that affect all different groups of people.  Today, February 7, 2012 is National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.  On today blacks are encouraged to get educated, get tested, get involved and get treated!

This marks the 12th year for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a national HIV testing and treatment community mobilization initiative targeted at Blacks in the US. The initiative holds four specific focal points: education, testing, involvement, and treatment.

National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day was founded by five national organizations:

  • ·         Concerned Black Men, Inc. of Philadelphia
  • ·         Health Watch Information and Promotion Services, Inc.
  • ·         Jackson State University – Mississippi Urban Research Center
  • ·         National Black Alcoholism and Addictions Council
  • ·         National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS.

National Wear Red Day: “Pink goes RED” for a day!

Posted on

On Friday, February 3, 2012, National Wear Red Day®, Americans will wear red to show their support for women’s heart health. Let us join millions of Americans in the fight against heart disease in women by wearing RED.  This observance promotes the Red Dress symbol and provides an opportunity for everyone to unite in The Heart Truth’s life-saving awareness-to-action movement by putting on a favorite red item – dress, shirt, tie, or pin.

Heart Disease is still the No.1 killer of women, taking the life of one in three women each year. This is especially important for African American women, who are at increased risk due to factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and diabetes.

I care about you and want you to join me on Friday, February 3, 2012 as “Pink Goes RED” for just a day.

My Daily Cocktail….

Posted on

I must admit – when I was younger, in my college years, a good cocktail would ensure a good time (which typically meant for me – good music, good conversation and the ability to stay up late).  I have come to the realization that as I am getting older (and Better, might I add), that kind of cocktail brings out the worse in me now days– headaches, sleepiness and a bad start to the next day (let alone, the effects on the current one).  So instead I have found a new cocktail -  One that I can have DAILY!

I recently discovered a natural remedy to my horrible, almost daily, migraines- in the form of a supplement.  So while I was at it, I decided to try some vitamins that had been recommended to help me overall.  I must admit that I feel like a new Woman – the new B (Bijee that is – lol).
